Optical Design

The Optical Design team focuses on

  • Freeform optics
  • Adaptive luminaires with tunable radiation patterns and spectra
  • LED- and laser-based (white) light sources
  • Phosphors and quantum dots

We use commercial & in-house developed ray-tracing / multi-physics simulation tools to model & design novel light sources and illumination systems. Our simulation models are fed with accurate measurements of light sources (spectral radiance), materials (absorbance, scattering and luminescence), and surfaces (spectral BSDF).
