Gert obtained his bachelor and master degree in Electronics at the KH Kempen in Belgium in 2013. His thesis research involved investigating novel 2D sound source localisation algorithms.

Supported by SBO-IWT funding (SINS project) he is investigating robust and energy efficient audio-based classification networks. He started developing a multi-channel audio enhancement framework for improved classification results in adverse conditions (reverberration and noise). He is currently investing novel sensor selection strategies in sensor networks that reduce the energy consumption without losing classification accuracy.  He is in charge of developing the real-time audio classification software for the projects demonstrator. Moreover, does he coordinate a large data acquisition campaign to acquire a unique multi-channel data set with domestic sounds.
