PREFER tests

Based on the outcomes of the PREFER model, 2 tests were developed to support the professional development of engineering students. The tests were developed in cooperation with BDO Human Capital and in close collaboration with industry.

For both the PREFER Explore and the PREFER Match test, you can download a manual with more explanation about the test items and scoring. Use the test account to try it out yourself! You can also receive the scores of your students if they enter via a login code.

Aim? Introduce students in a lightweight manner to the 3 professional roles

  • What? Personal Preference Test
  • How? 10 items. Students choose between 3 activities (most/least preferred)
  • Time? ~8 minutes
  • Feedback? Personalized report with the overall result on role preference and detailed result on answer pattern.

PREFER Match

Aim? Feedback on role alignment and competency profile

  • What? Situational Judgement Test (1 per role)
  • How? 7 or 8 professional situations. Students rate the level of appropriateness of 4 reactions to each situation.
  • Time? 10 to 15 minutes per test
  • Feedback? Personalized report with role score and score of competencies (comparison of students' judgment to the judgment of a panel of engineers, tips on how to improve, why these competencies are important in).
